Tommie puts a smile on Mullins' face
Tommie Beau has an admirable record in staying chases for Seamus Mullins, and burnished that record a little more in this afternoon's Durham National over an extended 3m 5f.
This admirable performer, still just an 8 year old, is now the winner of 7 of his 19 chase starts, and boasts 10 wins from 30 starts under Rules. This latest win, however, was no walk in the park with the game Tommie Beau under James Best only getting up close home to win a neck in the soft ground.
Mullins is not one of the county's more fashionable trainers, yet consistently produces good results from the quality of horse in his care. Not for him precocious juveniles or expensive French-breds. His owners are either longstanding or seeking value, which brings a caveat of patience with it. Tommie Beau, officially rated 128, is the highest-rated horse in the yard at Willsford.
Three times a winner this summer, in each instance he's carried top weight; 11st 12 at Newton Abbot in May, 12st 3 at Stratford in June, and 11st 10 here. He's at his element in this class; just the sort that will make a superb Point-to-Pointer at the
appropriate stage of his career.

More to come yet however, both from Tommie Beau, and from Mullins too.
