The Notorious Pink Mixed Open will be the feature event of this popular steeplechase fixture on Saturday March 28. Winners of each of the six races on the card will receive magnums of Notorious Pink as prizes, whilst guests in the Queens Building hospitality will be guests at a wine tasting before the racing gets underway. Horsepower meets horsepower

Wiltshire Isuzu dealer Fussell Wadman in Devizes has teamed up with the Avon Vale Races on Saturday March 28, to showcase its range of 4WD vehicles to the rural audience that attends the races. The dealership covers a geographical area from Wantage to Bristol. In addition to displaying vehicles for the large number of land professionals attending the fixture, Fussell Wadman will supply courtesy vehicles to get course officials to their posts at the start or around the course. "We're delighted to be back at Larkhill for this memorable and growing event," remarked Jorge Wadman. "We look forward to meeting plenty of existing customers and some new ones too." So just how important is a jockey?

One of the biggest questions in horse racing centres around jockeys and their importance to winning a race. It's often said that "good horses make good jockeys" but a good jockey cannot make a slow horse faster. Many people wonder just how much a rider impacts a horse’s performance on the racetrack. Never is this more relevant than in the nursery of Point-to-Point racing, where the next generation of jockeys learns its trade, yet presently, the standard of riding between the flags is higher than it has ever been. Next month's Cheltenham Festival will feature many of the best jockeys in the world. Punters are already debating which jockey will win top honours and Cheltenham offers gives them

It's a dog day at Larkhill

The Avon Vale races has added a dog agility show to its racing fixture on Saturday March 28 to broaden its appeal. Building on the success of fun dog shows previously, the raceday will now feature six or more classes of dog agility. "In recent research, we discovered that 60% of those that come racing already own a dog," reported Peter McNeile, for the Avon Vale Races. "It makes perfect sense to add a dog show, which brings additional visitors with a rural bias, and add a great spectacle for attendees." Dog owners need to enter in advance for the show, which is run under Kennel Club rules.
