About Race Day
The roots of modern day racing are firmly entrenched in Point-to-Point racing. Many of our top riders and trainers began their careers in the Point-to-Point field, including David Pipe, Champion Jockey Dickie Johnson, Tom Scudamore and the late Richard Woollacott, to name but a few.
Point-to-Point racing is the amateur division of a horserace meeting over fences and attracts a wide variety of visitors drawn predominantly from the rural community. Some come for the racing, others just to enjoy the spectacular countryside and the sociable atmosphere. You don't have to wander far to stumble into a friend at the races!
If you don't want to bring a picnic, then our Larkhill Nosebag will provide a variety of fast food and snacks to keep hunger at bay.
There are many trade stalls selling local produce as well as a bar, local food and drink stalls and even a hog roast. It’s a very relaxed day with lots of fun activities for kids, no dress code and you’re welcome to bring your dogs (but they must be kept on a lead and we ask you not to leave them unattended in the car and to tidy up after them please).
And to reinforce the roots of the sport deep in the hunting field, you can come and meet the Avon Vale hounds and their huntsmen, who will parade during the day. You can even sponsor your own hound!
